Solving Academic and Behavior Problems - Online Course

 Margaret Searle and Marilyn Swartz have developed a quick and easy way for individuals and teams to access the support they need when PD time is limited and hard to schedule.

Based upon the new ASCD book Solving Academic and Behavior Problems: A Strengths-Based Guide for Teachers and Teams this training extends the former RTI/MTSS Coaches' Training. The course helps both new and experienced educators explore more efficient strategies for improving the way they diagnose and resolve learning and social/emotional concerns.

Each simple but engaging lesson is designed to help K-12 teachers and administrators act as peer coaches who can apply a strengths-based approach to the RTI/MTSS process.

Facilitated Training:


Each module can be accomplished with about 3-4 hours a week of combined online and independent work. Your self-paced work (anticipation guide, videos, rubrics, and reading reflections) will be used as a basis for the weekly live Zoom discussions facilitated by problem-solving experts Margaret Searle and Marilyn Swartz.  

  • Winter Session is scheduled for November 1 - December 6.

  • January Session is scheduled for January 19 - February 23.


The entire course takes approximately 25 hours to complete. CEUs or university credit are available.

Maximum capacity is 20 people per cohort to allow for more personalized feedback during live Zoom sessions. If there is not room in the session you requested, you have the option of being top priority on the waiting list for the next time the course is offered.

Unfacilitated Training:


Registrants of the unfacilitated training receive a five-month license to all of the modules. Handouts, additional readings and a copy of the book are included. This is an ideal approach for a teacher book study. See the tab at the top of the page to register for the unfacilitated study.

No CEUs or university credit is available for the unfacilitated training.
